Some More Diseases and Health Problems
Q.46. My son suffers from nosebleed: it is a frequent occurrence with him. Twice in the week I find him suffering from it. Can anything help? Ans. Children whose diet is deficient in calcium suffer from nosebleed. If the diet includes milk, oranges, green vegetables and other calcium bearing substances nosebleed will automatically vanish after some time. An immediate expedient is to wash the face of the child with cold water. A bandage half an inch thick and two inches broad should be wetted with water and applied to the spinal column of the sufferer from nosebleed for fifteen to twenty minutes to give immediate relief. Q.47. My five year old son suffers from night blindness. He is unable to see after sunset and no course of treatment has so far been of any help. Ans. Night blindness is a deficiency disease; if the elements needed are found in the diet night blindness will go. Natural salts and vitamins needed to make up the deficiency which causes night blindness are found in whole meal bread, un milled rice, fresh vegetables and un boiled milk. Put your child on a diet of these foods and ask him to eat at least 250 grammas of carrots each day. Carrot is a vegetable which contains vitamins which make up the deficiency. Q.48. I have been suffering from trachoma for the last two years. Various types of eye drops give only temporary relief. Doctors tell me that it is a life-long disease unless surgery interferes with its course and even then the relief will be for a couple of years at the most. I have heard that it can even lead to total blindness. Ans. Poisonous hum ours in the body lead to trachoma and only a cleansing of the hum ours can help. Unless that is done external applications, lotions and drugs will be of no avail. Vegetables and fruits clean the blood and refined foods like flour products, sugar, ghee, cereals, tea, coffee, cigarettes, condiments, produce morbid hum ours which give rise to disease. For a fortnight eat only fruits and raw vegetables like tomatoes, carrot and spinach. Give up salt during this period. After that take to bread, boiled vegetables and fruits. Take an enema during the period that you live on fruits. Q.49. I have been suffering from stomach ache: the area affected is the one between the heart and the navel. The pain does not leave me even when the stomach is empty. I feel nauseated all the time, cannot sleep soundly and feel constipated. All drugs have failed to give relief. Ans. Blister like the ones you have in your mouth can afflict the stomach also. Ingestion of food gives temporary relief. You should take to the milk treatment. Q.50. My son is three months old, but my wife is unable to breast-feed him because there is not enough milk to slake the thirst of the infant and he has to be fed with a bottle. Three of my children have died due to insufficient diet. Ans. If the diet of the mother is normal with salts and vitamins, there is no reason why she should suffer from insufficient lactation and be not able to feed her infant your wife should take only milk and fruits in the morning and evening and her lunch should consist of boiled vegetables and whole meal bread. She should take long walks in the morning and evening. Her water intake should be at least one and a half to two liters daily. Q.51. My four year old daughter is suffering from whooping cough for the last seven months and no drugs have been able to give her relief. Ans. A whooping cough patient should do away from all foods which produce phlegm like milk, ghee, sweets, rice, refined flour products, sugar and lentils. His diet should consist of oranges, musk melon, tomatoes and raspberry. Vegetables like spinach, cabbage, gourds, should be taken in a boiled form without addition of any condiments. Whole meal bread and toasted potatoes could also be given. The patient should be encouraged to fast for a couple of days with the onset of the symptoms of whooping cough. The fasting period should be followed by a week of living on oranges only. Another precaution is to see that the child does not develop costiveness. Q, 52. I suffer from kibes during winter. The hard crust on the heels cracks and starts bleeding. It is not only painful but incapacitates me. In summer the kibes heal on their own. Ans. Kibes are caused by lack of alkalinity in the blood and also unclean feet. Take more vegetables and fruits to make up the deficiency of alkaline matter in the blood and wash your feet scrubbing the heels thoroughly. Wash the feet with hot water and apply coconut oil on the kibes. Always wear shoes; walking barefoot will not only make the feet dirty but the dirt will get into the cracks of the heels because of the kibes and create further complications. Q.53. how can one deal with dark circles under the eyes? And. Dark circles under the eyes may be due to malfunctioning of the liver and constipation. Late nights may also be a contributing factor. Reduce the amount of fats in the food; deal with your constipation first. Take plenty of exercise and spend restful nights. The dark circles will disappear after some time.
Q.54. children sometimes suffer from conjunctivitis or similar disorders which inflame the eyes and make them blood red. How can these disorders be cured? Ans. The children should not be given too much of sweets to eat. Their food should be simple and should include seasonal fruits and vegetables. If conjunctivitis or similar diseases strike, put them on a natural diet of fruit and vegetables; if they can take a salt free diet it would further help them get rid of the malady. The eyes should be washed thoroughly with lukewarm water using a cotton swab. A mud pack may be applied for half an hour twice daily. Cover the eyes with a thin cotton cloth and spread mud lightly over that. Keep the pack for ten to fifteen minutes. This will help ease the trouble. Take care to ensure that the clay used for the mudpack is clean. Q.55. If there is an apprehension of miscarriage can it be avoided by taking to naturopathy? Doctors have advised injections but I am afraid of taking them. I am two months pregnant. Ans. If there is any pain or the slightest spotting (bleeding), the expectant mother should take bed rest for three or four days. The foot of the bed should be kept raised a couple of inches for a few hours in the day when the patient is on bed rest. A wet pack should be placed on the pubes for an hour in the morning and evening. The process should be repeated on the dates the pregnant woman would have had her monthly period. After the third month the apprehension of a miscarriage will recede.
Q.56. What should be the ideal food of an expectant mother? And what about the diet of the woman who has given birth to a child? Ans. The food of an expectant mother is not something special. Only thing is she should not overeat under the impression that she needs more nutrition for the child whom is growing in her body. Her diet should, however, include enough of fruit, vegetables and milk. On the day the woman delivers the baby and the next day she should fast and take only water four to five times in the day. On the third day she should be given fruits, then milk and fruits and after a week she should take to normal food. She should desist from fats for a fortnight. When she starts taking ghee, it should be in moderate quantities. Labour pains are productive of extreme exhaustion and that is why she should give her digestive organs a rest. She can digest fats only when she is up and about. Q. 57. I find that many children fall a prey to mumps. There is inflammation in the throat and severe pain. The patient has also high temperature. How is it caused? Is it contagious? How do you treat it? Ans. The disease strikes children whose intake of water id insufficient and who suffer from constipation. Children should be encouraged to take adequate amounts of water and should visit the toilet regularly so that they do not develop constipation. Their diet should include sufficient amounts of fruits and vegetables. After the disease strikes them, they should be given an enema daily and should be kept on a diet of fruit juices. The inflamed part of the throat should be covered with a hot compress for ten minutes followed by a cold compress to be applied for one to two hours. Three to four days regimen described here will drive away the malady.
Q.58. I snore loudly during my sleep and find it inconvenient for those sharing the room with me and embarrassing for my self. How can I get rid of it? Ans. Persons who generally sleep in a supine position throughout are liable to snore. Try sleeping on your side. That will reduce the severity of snoring. Q.59. what is the best way to avoid heat stroke? Does one always keep one’s head covered all the time one moves about in the sun? Ans. Take water before you venture outside in the sun during summer. Heat stroke is generally preceded by dehydration. Never try to suppress your thirst. Adequate intake of water and other liquids is a must in summer. If you cover your head with a wet towel when you have to go out in the sun, heat will never bother you. Cover your head with a hat cap. It is better to cover your head from the rays of the sun during the noonday sun which is rather severe in summer. Q.60. How can goitre be cured? Ans. Goitre, also known as bronchocele is a term applied to the swelling on the front of the neck caused by the enlargement of the thyroid gland. It is caused by deficiency of iodine in the diet. It is an endemic disease prevalent in the hill districts of the country. The growth of the thyroid gland is generally unattended by pain but if the goitre becomes large it may cause hoarseness. Too enlarged goitre may interfere with breathing and the capacity to swallow. The best way to deal with goitre is to take foods which contain natural iodine. They are water nut (singhara), lotus reed, stem of the lotus, tuber of the plant cuperus tuberoses and pineapple. In addition, the sufferer from goitre must follow the general principles of nature cure and take a natural diet.
