29. Delayed menstruation and Anemia:-

Q.33. I am eighteen years of age and suffer from delayed menstruation: sometimes, the gap between the periods is as long as two months. Is it due to anemia?

Ans. Yes, anemia can lead to delayed periods. Sometimes menstruation does not occur for many months at a stretch. You must deal with the anemia first. For that, leafy vegetables, raw vegetables, potatoes, toasted in sand or over coals, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, spinach in uncooked form, oranges, pineapples, musk melons and mangoes should be your mainstay. Do not take refined flour products, sugar and milled rice. Raisins, figs, dates and gur should be taken in place of sugar. Milk and milk products should be taken in abundance.

Taking walks, exercise to improve the shape of the abdomen, sunbath in the morning and hot and cold hip baths can help. Use tubs, one containing water at a temperature 800 to 100 degrees higher than the body temperature and the other cold water. Alternate the tubs: five minutes in cold water and two minutes in the hot water tub. Repeat it four times and then take a cold bath.

Another thing: do not overstrain yourself, mentally or physically.

Ans. The symptoms indicate defective circulation of blood. Have somebody massage your body for some days.  Take exercise regularly and take one to two liters of water in 24 hours. If the services of a masseur are not available, rub your body with hot water as you take a hot bath. Immediately there after take a cold bath. Sprinkle cold water for a minute and then hot water for the same amount of time. This will activate the circulation of blood in the region of the face.
